Lech Poznan FC supporters are gearing up to fight the flood in the Poznan metropolitan area, as the Warta River threatens to burst its banks.
“Twenty to thirty healthy football fans are needed to reinforce embankments in Lubon [in the suburbs of Poznan],” a football fan wrote on internet forum for Lech Poznan FC supporters. Football fans from the western city, wearing Wellington b oots and club scarves are going to meet at the Lech Poznan stadium and head towards the Warta River together.
“More and more people volunteer,” an officer from the crisis staff in Poznan told Gazeta Wyborcza. “Yesterday we had 250 contacts in the database – individuals and groups,” he adds. “Lech Poznan FC supporters will strengthen embankments between Poznan and Lubon and near a rowing club Triton.”
On Friday morning the Warta Rivver was recorded at 592 cm and is expected to reach 620 centimetres later today.
Earlier supporters of Zaglebie Lubin FC and Stal Stalowa Wola helped reinforcing embankments in their home towns and Wisla Krakow FC and Legia Warszawa FC fans raised money and gifts for flood victims. (mg/pg)
