Heavy rain threatens return of flooding

The metrological office is warning that heavy rains in the south of Poland could cause a return of flooding to the region.

 

Rivers could swell dangerously in Podkarpackie, Małopolska and Silesia provinces as rainfall could reach from 30 to 70 mm with winds reaching 60 kpm.


In the Lublin province in the south thunderstorms could drop 40 mm of rain.


In Podkarpackie the number 73 highway which takes traffic into the Czech republic are closed last night after heavy rain and storms. Sections of highways 77 and 57 were also closed and diversions were put in place.

 

Authorities are warning that water levels on the River Oder are reaching heights were emergency warning are issued.

 

Floods which affected many areas in in the south and central regions of Poland two weeks ago took the lives of 16 people and left many homeless. (pg)
