43 die on Poland’s roads

07.06.2010

At least 43 died on Poland’s four days over the long Corpus Christi weekend.

Police report that from June 2 to 6, 527 road accidents were recorded in which 43 people died and 671 were injured. Police charged 2521 people with being in charge of a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Despite numbers still being high, the death rate was down 20 compared to last year. This year's long weekend was safer than the year before. Police did everything possible to make the highways safe,” said police spokesman Mariusz Sokolowski.

The police put out 10,000 officers onto the roads over the weekend, particularly situated around known road accident black spots. (pg)
