Lepper, Morawiecki, Ziętek in TV debate

08.06.2010

The first of the televised presidential election debates gets underway tonight, pitting together candidates Andrzej Lepper, Kornel Morawiecki and Boguslaw Ziętek.

The three candidates - which opinion polls suggest will get few votes in the first round of elections on June 20 - will be debating the pension, tax and health systems among other issues.

A second debate, scheduled to be between Marek Jurek, Andrzej Olechowski and Janusz Korwin-Mikke, to be held on Thursday 10 June - also on TVP - is in doubt, however, as candidates have not confirmed their participation in the event.

A third debate, between front runners Jaroslaw Kaczynski, Bronislaw Komorowski, Grzegorz Napieralski and Waldemar Pawlak is also scheduled for Sunday, June 13.

Bronislaw Komorowski‘s campaign team, however, has ruled out his participation in the debate on TVP and instead proposes a debate between himself and his arch rival Jaroslaw Kaczynski only, but this time on the private broadcaster TVN. (pg)
