A gala concert is to take place in Krakow in order to raise funds for Lanckorona, which has suffered from landslides, causing millions of zloty’s worth in damages and forcing people to evacuate their homes for good.
The concert is to start at 7pm on Sunday, June 13 at the Krakow Opera, and is to comprise a gala performance on operatic themes sung by some of the best Polish singers.
The star of the evening is to be Malgorzata Walewska, who spent two years with the Viennese Staatsoper, singing alongside the likes of Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo.

According to a British edition of Time magazine in 1999, she was included in the top 10 most famous Poles as “a star who shines on Poland in the next millennium.”
Tickets are on sale for 100,150 and 250 zloty each, available at the Opera’s box office, however any amount higher than 100 zloty may be paid so that extra aid may be given to the residents of Lanckorona.
The concert is organised by Krakow businessman Leszek Mikos and the Terra Artis Lanckorona Association, a philanthropic organisation from the village which lies around 40 kilometres south of the southern city. (jb)
