One soldier died and three were wounded as a result of a mortar fuse explosion during a military exercise at a training ground in Drawsko, in the Pomerania province, north western Poland.
The 29-year old soldier was killed on the spot, his three colleagues from the 12th Mechanized Brigade stationed in Szczecin were taken to hospital. Their lives are not in danger, says a hospital report.
The accident happened at 5.30 CET, Thursday morning, when the soldiers opened a case with fuses in preparation for mortar round training. A special investigation on the circumstances and probable cause of the fatal accident has been launched by the Military Gendarmerie. (ss/mg)
