From midnight Friday to 20.00 CET Sunday all opinion polls are banned in Poland and the candidates must stop campaigning during ‘pre-election silence’ ahead of the first round of presidential elections.
Media in Poland must refrain from mentioning details on, or opinions about, the ten candidates lining up for voters to choose from on election day. Information about what media can publish or broadcast is severely limited by electoral law, to give voters some space - or a ‘cooling off period’ - to contemplate their choice.
On this web site, until polling stations close at 8 pm local time on Sunday, there will be only news of turnout at various times of the day on polling day itself, given out by the National Election Committee.
As soon as ‘pre-election silence’ ends, when polling stations close, exit polls will be published on the stroke of 20.00 CET, June 20 - all being well - by the TVP public broadcaster and other private TV stations. Be sure to log on at this web site for all the latest election news. (pg)
