Long distance lost property retrieval!

10.07.2010

A woman in Wroclaw, south-west Poland, was so delighted and shocked when a wallet containing 15,000 zloty (4,000 euro) was returned to her that she fainted, with police having to call an ambulance to take her to hospital for a medical check-up.

The event happened after a resident of northern Poland found the woman's wallet which held the cash and the owner’s personal documents.

The woman who found the cash reported the find to the police, which established that it belonged to an inhabitant of Wroclaw in the south-west, more than 500 kilometres away.

The local policemen contacted their colleagues in Wroclaw, who called by the woman’s flat. It turned out that the 68 year-old woman had lost the wallet at the railway station in Olsztyn two days earlier and had abandoned all hope of recovering it.

In another similar incident, also in northern Poland, a resident of Szczytno in the Mazurian Lake District has contacted the police after he had found a handbag containing 27,000 zloty (around 7,000 euro) and its owner’s personal documents. It is not known how the owner of the handbag, also a woman, reacted when the money was returned to her. (mk/jb)
