The government has paid out almost 50 percent of planned aid for the families of the victims of the Smolensk tragedy, in which President Lech Kaczynski and 95 others died.
9.3 million zloty (2.2 million euro) of the total designated sum, amounting to 20 million zloty, has already been paid out.
67 people received funeral expenses, with all families being given a one-off payment of 40,000 zloty, giving a total sum of 3.84 million zloty.
Children up until the age of 25, one of whose parents died in the tragic catastrophe on April 10, will receive a special allowance amounting to 2,000 zloty per month.
Some family members of the victims of the crash will receive the 2,000 zloty per month allowance for life, with some single parents caring for many children receiving a lifetime allowance of 4,000 zloty per month.
Close relatives of those who died in the accident are liable to receiving legal assistance, with mobile phone operators not charging for calls made in connection to the Smolensk case.
Out of the total sum, 2 million zloty will be spent on a joint tomb in Warsaw’s Powazki cemetery, which will bare an enscription commemorating the Smolensk catastrophe. (jb)
