EU brands two more Polish foods

13.07.2010

The European Commission has officially recognized two more Polish food products as regional specialties: the Korczyn beans and Kurpiowski mead.

Brussels has certified the two foods as Protected Geographical Indications (PGIs), designated for regional specialties under local trade marking, meaning that identical products throughout the entire EU cannot carry the official regional brand name.

The EU protects the regional specialization of a total of 900 products and the bean dish and mead join bryndza, a sheep milk cheese, oscypek, a smoked highlanders cheese and several other products on the PGI list. (mmj)
