Szymanowski Music Days opens in Zakopane

18.07.2010

The 33rd Karol Szymanowski Music Days open in the southern town of Zakopane today.

The underlying theme of the event is the music of Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin, to mark the bicentenary of the artist’s birth. Alongside renditions of original works, participants will have the chance to listen to transcriptions of works, including Chopin’s concerts for grand piano and string quartet. The programme of the event also includes jazz improvisations and traditional highlander music.

The festival offers spectators the opportunity to listen to concerts by outstanding Polish and foreign musicians, says Karol Bula, head of the Karol Szymanowski Music Society, organizer of the event.

“One of the great performers appearing onstage is Adam Wodnicki, Katarzyna Popowa-Zydron. Other artists performing include Joanna Domańska, two quartets from Warsaw: Camerata and Prima Vista, alongside a number of other performers,” said Bula.

Established in 1977, the festival is one of the largest and oldest cultural events in the southern Podhale region.
