Crowds gathering at the cross in front of the Presidential Palace to commemorate the late president Lech Kaczynski and the First Lady Maria Kaczynska are a serious problem for officers from the Government Protection Bureau.
The cross is situated in the so-called 'ground zero', which requires special protection because of the vicinity of the Presidential Palace.
Currently, officers from the Government Protection Bureau (BOR) are just watching the crowd which regularly gathers at the cross but when the new president Bronislaw Komorowski moves into the Palace, the crowd will have to be dispersed for security reasons.
“I can’t imagine that there are constantly bystanders in ground zero,” says the head of the Government Protection Bureau, General Marian Janicki, adding that he has already talked with the head of the Chancellery of the President about the eventual removal of the cross. (mg/jb)
