Opposition party chooses new political committee

25.07.2010

The political council of Law and Justice has elected new deputy leaders of the party as well as its political committee.

At the gathering of the opposition party’s council, Saturday, Zbigniew Ziobro and Adam Lipinski were chosen to remain as deputy heads, with a third deputy being the newly elected Beata Szydlo.

Mariusz Blaszczak was nominated as head of the Law and Justice parliamentary club, with Marek Kuchcinski nominated as deputy parliamentary speaker.

The party authorities have excluded Joanna Kluzik Rostkowska and Pawel Poncyliusz, the two great personalities of the Law and Justice presidential campaign, from any leading positions.

Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the party underlined that the harsh times on the Polish scene as well as the complicated explanations of the Smolensk air crash, in which his twin brother president Lech Kaczynski and 95 other top officials died, demanded that experienced politicians  are in the leadership of the party.

“Times are difficult and we consider that party leadership should comprise politicians who are experienced and able to bear the harsh times,” Kaczynski said, adding that there is a “demand that they remain immune to attacks and outright hostility. The history of our movement shows that only such personalities are able to have full command of the situation.”

Jaroslaw Kaczynski underlined that recent surveys conducted by the Law and Justice institute and the SMG/KRC pollster showed that support for Law and Justice has not fallen after the recent discussions on the explanation of the causes of the catastrophe. He pointed that Law and Justice will not give up its quest for the truth and bring to light the political and moral consequences.

The candidates for the Law and Justice authorities were recommended by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, in line with the party’s regulations.

The new authorities had to be elected after the April Smolensk air crash. Among the victims were Law and Justice deputy parliamentary speaker, Krzysztof Putra, as well as two former deputy leaders of the parliamentary club, Aleksandra Natalii-Swiat and Przemyslaw Gosiewski. (ab/jb)
