Intense rain in some areas of Poland’s southern regions have caused rivers to climb back up to emergency levels, although authorities have discounted any possibilities of flooding.
The Regional Emergency Management Centre in Rzeszow has informed that one river, the Pielnica in Nowosielce, is currently 18 cm over alarm levels, as are two streams in Rzeszow.
Warning levels have been passed by a number of Vistula tributaries in the south-eastern Podkarpacie region, including the Wisloka, Wislok and Ropa.
The State Fire Brigade is warning that intensive rain in the areas of Stalowa Wola, Kolbuszowa and Mielec have caused some localised flooding of roads and households, and has been called out over 60 times to help pump water away from affected areas.
In the Malopolska region, the towns of Nowy Sacz, Lapanow and Bochnia have declared a flood emergency, with a number of other towns declaring a flood alert.
In Krakow, the regional capital, fire services worked all night to strengthen flood banks on the Serafa River, which broke its banks and flooded roads and houses in the vicinity.
The Municipal Council in the city has informed that two streets have been completely closed, as well as a partial closure of one of the city’s main roads in the Biezanow district. (jb)
