Bronislaw Komorowski
UPDATE - Poland’s Supreme Court has declare the presidential elections, concluded on July 4 with the victory of Bronislaw Komorowski, valid.
Komorowski’s inauguration as head of state will now take place on Friday.
The court session this morning was interrupted by opponents of the president-elect Bronislaw Komorowski. The men questioned the election procedure and called to invalidate the election. When the judges wanted to read the ruling the men started screaming. “I will not let an offender to become a president,” shouted one of the protesters. The men were removed from the court room by policemen.
The Supreme Court received 378 protests, many to do with balloting taking place in areas affected by the May/June floods in Poland. If the court did decide to invalidate the elections then a new ballot must take place within two and a half months of the court’s ruling. (pg/mg)
