Caritas kits out flood kids for school

23.08.2010

As the start of the new term approaches, the Caritas Foundation of Poland is preparing 5,500 school uniforms for kids from flood affected families in Poland.

Money for the purpose is being collected via a text-message campaign, which is to last from 30 August through 5 September.

Deputy director of Caritas Polska, Father Marcin Brzezinski, says a special fund raising concert is planned in Skierniewice, central Poland, for 4 September under the slogan: “A School Bag Full of Smiles”.

The church based charity has been delivering aid and financial support for all victims of the three floods that hit Poland in May, June and this month.

The biggest help was extended to residents of Bogatynia, in south-western Lower Silesia, near the German border.

A great part of the town was destroyed after a nearby damn had broken due to a violent downpour at the beginning of August. (ss)
