Firefighters are cleaning up after last night’s thunderstorms and hail that passed through western Poland.
Fire services received over seven hundred emergency calls, mainly from Zielona Gora, after a violent thunderstorm which swept through the city at night. It started just after midnight and finished only in the morning.
“Fortunately, there are no victims of the storm but it will take several hours to clean up the mess,” emergency services say.
One third of Zielona Gora is deprived of electricity because fallen trees and strong wind ripped electricity lines. “Emergency services are repairing broken electricity lines and pylons,” assures Anna Bezaniku from Enea Operator.
Thunderstorms mixed with hail also damaged houses and roads. Many cars were squashed by tree branches. Firemen had to extinguish fires caused by lightning and pump out water from flooded buildings. In the north-western region of Pomerania three people were injured when a tree fell on a car. (mg)
