More and more children and women in Poland are drinking alcohol, shows a report by the State Agency for Prevention of Alcohol Related Problems.
In July, police reported over 130 cases of drunk teenagers and children, for example six secondary school students who drunk two bottles of vodka to celebrate the end of the school year.
“While on holiday children adopt riskier behaviour because they feel they are out of teachers or parents
’ control. The problem, however, are adults who don’t react when they see a teenager drinking alcohol,” Krzysztof Brzozka from the State Agency for Prevention of Alcohol Related Problems (PARPA) told the Gazeta Wyborcza daily.
According to PARPA, in Poland on average children start drinking alcohol at the age of twelve and it is gradually decreasing. Although beer is the most popular alcohol among teenagers, as many as 70 percent of secondary school students admit they had no problem buying vodka. (mg)
