A 39-year-old man in the southern town of Rybnik, Silesia, is to hear accusations brought against him after he shot seven people during a family dispute over the weekend.
The man was taken into custody by police after the shooting frenzy on Saturday, but was left to sober up before he could hear the allegations against him.
According to media reports, prosecutors in Rybnik are to accuse the man of intent to murder with a fire-arm, a crime which carries a life sentence if the man is found guilty as charged. He may also hear accusations of illegal possession of a fire-arm, of which six were found after police searched the man’s apartment.
Superintendent Aleksandra Nowara of Rybnik police told the press that six of the seven people who were shot are still in hospital, but in a stable condition. The man’s father-in-law, who alerted police to the incident, has been released from hospital.
However, the man’s wife and brother-in-law are still in a critical condition and have undergone surgery.
The incident happened after the man opened fire at members of his family during a domestic row, Saturday, injuring seven people including his wife and teenage son.
When police, anti-terrorist units and negotiators arrived at the scene in Rybnik’s Boguszowice district, the man started firing at them, managing to shoot both a police car as well an ambulance.
Miraculously, no-one died in the incident. (jb)
