Polish Radio is collecting fairy tales for Tomek, the mushroom poisoned six year old liver transplant patient, to help him recover.
More than two weeks ago, six-year old Tomek had to have his liver transplanted after he had eaten poisonous mushrooms. Two days ago, the boy had to undergo a subsequent surgery as his bile duct was not functioning properly.
After the first surgery the boy was brought out of an induced coma and managed to breathe by himself but at the moment he is again in coma and needs a ventilator to breathe.
Doctors at the Children’s Health Centre in Warsaw and Polish Radio are asking Poles to send fairy tales for the little patient, which may help him recover.
“Many psychologists confirm that fairy tale therapy brings positive results and supports medical treatment. It is important that children who are recovering consciousness don’t wake up in silence,” says Pawel Trzcinski from the Children’s Health Centre.
Fairy tales for Tomek should be relatively short and have a happy ending. “A hero can cope with many difficulties but at the end has to overcome them. That’s what an ill child, who doesn’t understand what’s going on around them, experiences,” claim fairy tale therapists. (mg)
