Zebras turn into keyboards to celebrate Chopin Year

06.09.2010

Special Chopin road crossings are appearing in Warsaw to mark the 200th year of the birth of the great Polish composer.

The zebras crossings, which have taken on the irregular shape of a piano keyboard, can be seen in the city centre.

The aim of the new road markings is to remind tourists and Varsovians of Chopin Year, presently being celebrated in Poland.

Though the piano keyboard crossings do not play tunes, they should not fail to spark off imagination says Andrzej Laskowski from the Chopin 2010 office, responsible for the various events commemorating the composer’s bicentennial.

The music of Frederic Chopin has also inspired poster artists, which are now on display at the Regional City hall in Warsaw. Among the works presented are posters by such renowned Polishartists as Rafal Olbinski, Waldemar Swierzy or Andrzej Pagowski. (ab)
