A controversial documentary on former president Lech Walesa’s alleged collaboration with the communist secret services, yet to be broadcast, has appeared on the internet.
The documentary was leaked to the rightwing wolnapolska.pl web site (which had crashed at the time of writing) which inevitably made its way onto Youtube, though viewing it has been blocked due to “copyright infringement”.
The documentary makers arrive at similar conclusions as historians Slawomir Cenckiewicz and Piotr Gontarczyk, who accused the former Solidarity leader of being secret agent nicknamed “Bolek” in their controversial book Secret services and Lech Walesa.
Production of the documentary lasted a year and a half and was reportedly finished back in March: but a spokesman for the private broadcaster TVN, Karol Smoląg told the Rzeczpospolita daily today that the film “was not ready yet,” though reasons for the delay are not specified.
Former security services officer Janusz Stachowiak - who appears ‘anonymously’ in the film with his face blacked out - who was in charge of Lech Walesa’s personal files during the communist period, gives the most incriminatory testimony against Walesa in the film.
After the documentary was made, Stachowiak testified in the recent Krzysztof Wyszkowski vs. Lech Walesa libel earlier this month. Walesa had sued journalist Wyszkowski for defamation after calling him “a secret security services agent,” though the judge said that the defendant had a right to express an opinion and the former president of Poland lost the case.
