A new survey commissioned by Polish Radio shows that almost a third of Poles want the ruling Civic Platform to throw out MP Janusz Palikot, who has threatened to set up his own, liberal political party.
The survey, which was undertaken by pollsters Homo Homini, reveals that 29.2 percent of Poles think Janusz Palikot should be ousted from the party, while 12.1 percent think that the politician should be formally reprimanded.
24.2 percent of respondents believe that the matter only concerns the party, while 17 percent of people stated that they are not interested in Janusz Palikot.
13.5 percent of respondents stated that Civic Platform should allow for and tolerate Janusz Palikot’s activities.
The survey comes after the Civic Platform party was to pass judgment over Janusz Palikot over a formal complaint was filed against him to the parliamentary ethics committee by MEP Filip Kaczmarek after Palikot accused the former president Lech Kaczynski of having “blood on his hands” after the crash on 10 April.
More recently, the maverick politician has said that he may consider breaking from party ranks and go on to set up his own liberal left political formation, “Modern Poland” [Nowoczesna Polska].
The survey was based on asking a representative sample of 1070 people on 24 September. (jb)
