UPDATE - Police in north-eastern Poland have found a ten-year-old girl who went missing last Tuesday while hunting for mushrooms.
The girl, who suffers from epilepsy, went mushroom hunting in a forest near Rzepiski at around 16.00 CET last Tuesday afternoon. Her mother alerted police three hours later after the girl failed to reappear at home.
She was found a few kilometres away from her home after being noticed by drivers on National Road 8.
After failing to retrieve the girl earlier, police did not discount that she had been the target of criminal activity.
Around 250 members of the emergency services searched the forest area around the clock for three days. Police dogs, firemen and border guards, as well as helicopters equipped with thermovisual sensors were engaged in the search.
“The forest trails have all been searched by police,” Pawel Jakubiak from nearby Augustow police told Polish Radio, adding that police gave up scouring the area physically, and handed the case over to criminal investigators.
The missing girl (pictured above right) is around 150 cm tall and weighs around 30 kg. At the moment of disappearing, the girl was wearing a pair of black trousers and a white hooded top with black square patterns. (jb)
