Polish ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ rob bank to go on holiday

11.10.2010

Two lovers, 24-year-old Bartek S. and 23-year-old Patrycja J., who stole money to go on a romantic trip to Egypt, have been charged with bank robbery.

On 21 December 2009, masked Bartek entered a bank in the southern town of Radziszow, near Krakow, aimed a dummy gun at a cashier and demanded at least 20,000 zloty (5,000 euro) “for an ill child”.

The cashier gave him 29,300 zloty (7,370 euro). CCTVs showed that before entering the bank the 24-year-old an electrician made a phone call. They managed to establish that Bartek called his crime associate and lover Patrycja, a student.

Right after having robbed the bank, the Polish Bonnie and Clyde bought a trip to Egypt and posted photos with Egyptian pyramids in the background on a popular social networking site, naszaklasa.pl. When the couple returned from Egypt, they were detained by police.

Both face a trial at a court in Wieliczka, near Krakow. Patrycja is at large but must not leave Poland while Bartek is in custody and may face up to 12 years in prison. (mg/jb)
