13 members of an organised cigarette smuggling racket have been caught by the Central Investigation Bureau in the northern regions of Pomorze and Warmia-Mazury.
According to police investigators the group smuggled up to 200 million cigarettes, without paying duty, mostly to the United Kingdom.
The smuggling has cost the State Treasury around 127 million zloty (32 million euro) in lost excise revenue.
The ring-leader of the racket is thought to be a 70-year-old man from Sztum, northern Poland. (jb)
