After the departure of rogue MP Janusz Palikot from Civic Platform last week, the ruling party has responded by ejecting the maverick politician’s associates from electoral lists in the upcoming local government ballot.
At the beginning of this week, the National Council of Civic Platform changed its list of candidates for the upcoming elections in the Lublin region as well as city proper.
Lublin is the home of breakaway MP Janusz Palikot, and as such Civic Platform has thwarted the chances for a number of the politician’s associates and supporters to be elected from the party list.
The cull comes as Krzysztof Latka, a department director in Lublin’s town council, and who was originally billed as a candidate for the provincial government, is no longer listed.
Civic Platform affiliate Marek Flasinski has been dropped from the number one spot on the list for the Lublin area, and Jacek Sobczak, deputy provincial marshal has dropped to the number two spot on the Civic Platform electoral list. Former Civic Platform MP Krzysztof Kaminski has also been dropped by the ruling-party structures.
All the MPs were supporters of Janusz Palikot, who left Civic Platform after internal bickering caused a rift between the conservative and liberal wings of the party.
Janusz Palikot is to set up his own left-liberal political party, which has gained the support of leftist MP Ryszard Kalisz, who was expelled from the governing structures of the Democratic Left Alliance after a vote of no confidence recently. (jb)
