Police say that 39 people died on the roads in Poland over the All Saint’s weekend, with 1880 drivers caught in charge of a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Saturday saw the most casualties with 13 dead and 138 injured in 109 accidents.

Despite 15,000 police officers on the roads over the weekend as part of ‘Operation Torch’, the death toll was over twice as bad as the same holiday period last year, when 18 died over four days with 419 hurt. (pg)
