Ryszard C., a taxi driver who gunned down Marek Rosiak, a political assistant at the Law and Justice headquarters in Lodz in October, is to undergo psychiatric observation for six weeks.
Talking to RMF radio Thursday morning, Justice Minister Krzysztof Kwiatkowski announced the decision, stating that in accordance with the law the tests will discern whether Ryszard C. is of a sound mind or not.
“If [doctors] come to the conclusion that [Ryszard C.] is not of sound mind, a case will be brought against him nevertheless, although final procedures will be altered as a result,” Kwiatkowski stated.
Press review…
During the interview, Justice Minister Kwiatkowski said that he receives daily reports from investigators who keep a watch on Ryszard C., who was taken into custody straight after the gun attack on 19 October.
“[Ryszard C.] is extremely interested in the press, especially looking up materials that are written about his person,” Kwiatkowski said.
“I would not like to give a diagnosis based solely on written reports, but it can be discerned from the ones I have received that it may possibly be the highlight of his day,” added Minister Kwiatkowski.
If found guilty, Ryszard C. may be sent to life imprisonment for the crime. (jb)
