World famous jazz pianist and composer Chick Corea is billed tonight in Zabrze, southern Poland, with a solo performance featuring selections from his 3CD album released earlier this year.
Born in 1941, Corea has been among the household names of the world jazz scene since the 1960s. He is regarded, alongside Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett, as one of the greatest jazz pianists of the 20th century.
He was one of the first jazzmen to use the potential of electronic instruments, becoming the pioneer of the fusion trend. He has also had a tangible impact on the development of post-bop, free jazz and avant-garde jazz. He has 15 Grammys to his credit.
Chick Corea has made frequent visits to Poland over the past thirty years. His latest concert here was last year at the 7th Jazz Autumn in Bielsko-Biała (with Gary Burton – vibraphone). (mk)
