Front-runner Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz; photo - east news In a key battle in the local elections on Sunday, 52 percent say they will vote for the incumbent, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz (Civic Platform) in the race to be president of Warsaw, according to a poll commissioned by Polish Radio.The Homo Homini Institute found that 20.4 percent of respondents intend to vote for the Law and Justice candidate Czeslaw Bielecki, and 12. 9 percent for Wojciech Olejniczak (Democratic Left Alliance).
Just under two percent say they will vote for Janusz Korwin-Mikke, Katarzyna Munio will receive 1.5 percent of the vote share, Romuald Szeremietiew 1.1 percent, Piotr Strzembosz 1,0 percent, Piotr Skulski 0.7 percent, Danuta Bodzek 0.7 percent and Cezary Stachoń 0.2 percent.
In the election for local councillors Civic Platform will receive 47 percent of the vote.
The poll confirms
other surveys' findings that the vote for the Law and Justice party will collapse on Sunday, with just 17.1 percent of respondents saying they will turnout for the party lead by Jaroslaw Kaczynski.
In 2006, Law and Justice received 29 percent of the vote in Warsaw.
Twelve percent say they will vote for Democratic Left Alliance candidates.
The survey was conducted over the telephone on a representative sample of 1,072 people in Warsaw planning to vote in local elections on 21 Nov. 2010.
