A court has ruled that 62 year-old Ryszard C., suspected of murdering a political assistant and stabbing another in the Law and Justice party offices in Lodz will be kept under close psychiatric observation.

The decision by the District Court in Lodz, central Poland, was made at the request of prosecutors after two psychiatrists and a psychologist were unable to judge whether he was sane at the time of the crime.

“The court has ordered psychiatric observation in a closed medical institution for a period not longer than four weeks,” said Grazyna Jeżewska, press office at the District Court in Lodz.

On 18 October, Ryszard C. is accused of storming Law and Justice party HQ in Lodz and shooting political worker Marek Rosiak dead and stabbing another man.

Witnesses said that he shouted that he wanted to kill party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski. (pg)
