Poland in deep freeze

Temperatures plunged to under minus 20 degrees centigrade last night in some areas as arctic weather settles over Poland.


During Wednesday, the thermometer will remain well under freezing point, with daytime temperatures in the Suwalki region in the north east recording minus 14.

The coldest place in Poland last night was in Bialystok (a record - 26.5 C.) with the mercury level at - 17 in Warsaw.

The warmest area today will be around Gdansk on the Baltic coast at minus four degrees. More snow and blizzards are expected in many regions, with winds over 60 km / h.

The deep freeze is expected to continue on Thursday. (pg)
