The pandemonium caused by the spring flooding across Poland may still be fresh in the memory, but parts of the country are now preparing for another deluge as a thaw melts heavy snowfall.
As a result of rising water levels in seven communes in the Plock region, anti-flood measures are being put into action.
By seven o’clock this morning, the level of the River Vistula had already reached 24 cm over the warning levels at Kepa Polska, a situation echoed across the area.
Water has already filtered into the cellars of certain buildings, as well as low-situated courtyards.
“In the opinion of specialists, the rising level of the Vistula is as a result of the freezing of the water,” explained Dagmara Kobla-Antczak, spokesperson for the Plock county office.
She added that ice-breakers will be employed if the situation does not improve. The affected areas are Slubice, Mala Wies, Wyszogrod, Bodzanow, Slupno, Nowy Duninow i Gabin. (nh)
