Body parts other than that of President Lech Kaczynski and wife Maria may have been buried with them in Wawel Castle in Krakow following the Smolensk air crash in April, it has been revealed. Military prosecutors conducting a probe into the death of 96 political and military elite in crash in western Russia on 10 April may be flooded with exhumation requests, consequently, after doubt as to the identity of DNA samples, which may mean that body parts of different people have been buried in some of the graves.
RMF FM radio says it has learned unofficially that autopsy documents handed over to Polish investigators by the Russians are in considerable disarray, including incorrect numbering of some remains in autopsy documents and labels.
Prosecutors also say hat the Polish side has not received all documents from Russia and materials necessary for proper identification are incomplete.
“There is no need to jump to conclusions until the analysis is finished”, cautions Rafal Rogalski, a lawyer representing some of the families of victims but he admits that there is a problem and that is being carefully studied by Polish prosecutors.
