Ruling party has 30 pct lead in poll

14.01.2011

The ruling Civic Platform party has 30 percentage point lead over its nearest challenger, Law and Justice, according to a poll by TNS OBOP.

The centre-right Civic Platform (PO) can count on 54 percent of votes with the more conservative Law and Justice (PiS) on 24 percent. The Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) is on 11 percent. No other political party would exceed the 5-percent threshold necessary to obtain seats in parliament, shows the poll.

Only 3 percent of respondents said they would vote for the Polish Peasants Party (PSL), Civic Platform’s coalition partner, and the same amount said they would vote for the newly created Poland Comes First party.

The poll shows that support for Civic Platform has grown since December 2010 by 4 percentage points and for the Law and Justice party by 2 percentage points.

As many as 66 percent of respondents say they would vote in this year’s parliamentary elections.

The poll was conducted on 7-10 January among a sample of 974. (mg)
