The funeral of Archbishop Jozef Zycinski, the late metropolitan of Lublin, south eastern Poland, was held on Saturday. The ceremony was attended by President Bronislaw Komorowski who recalled the archbishop as a man of dialogue, true to tradition and a person looking with confidence at the future of the Church.
Zycinski was an example of openness to people of differing views and proof that reason and faith can be combined in joint effort and not against each other, said President Komorowski.
Enumerating Archbishop Zycinski’s merits, the President called him a champion against hatred and humiliation who had the rare ability of effectively helping the needy.
“Poland bids farewell to one of its great sons. We receive his death as an untimely loss,” President Komorowski said.
Archbishop Jozef Zycinski was posthumously awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Reborn Poland, one of the highest Polish state distinctions.
