The programme of the event includes a competition for musicians who draw from traditional music in their output. Interest in folk music is on the rise in Poland, but it still requires fostering as is the case with traditional music, says head of the Second Programme of Polish Radio Małgorzata Małaszko.

"We should nurture what is slowly fading away, that is traditional music, and those who play it,” she told Polosh Radio.

“This is why it is our biggest goal to back attempts at reviving the music, and to support young people who try to play traditional songs."

Alongside presenting Poland’s ethnic music and that of the country’s minority groups it also showcases the more contemporary styles listened to by younger generations laced with music of the roots. (ab)
