Weekend culture round-up - Museum Night

14.05.2011

Culture vultures in the Polish capital have a cracking weekend in store with both the Warsaw Book Fair and the 8th Night of Museums lined up.

Over 200 institutions will be throwing opening their doors for the latter, with entrance free until the early hours, and many museums are laying on one-off spectacles.

Down in Krakow, you're also spoilt for choice with the finale of the Milosz Festival - Timothy Garton-Ash and Zadie Smith are amongst the guests.

Simultaneously, the 9th Month of Photography in Krakow starts on Friday, with scores of artists exhibiting across the city. Mischievous guest curators Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin have gone out on a limb in the main programme, fronting shows by fictitious artists.

Over in Poznan, the city's own Night of Museums – Poznan was the first Polish city to take up the idea - is set to begin on Saturday evening. And if you're still around on Tuesday, a brand new “Poznan of Poets” festival will be drawing guests from across the globe.

Likewise, pop fans who are at a loose end on Tuesday might head over to Lodz, where Columbian songstress Skakira will be strutting her stuff. (nh)
