Report on communist-rooted military intelligence in democratic Poland delayed

31.01.2007
A detailed report describing the activity of former military intelligence in democratic Poland will be published later than expected, maybe in mid-February.

The news of the delay comes in the wake of a shocking leak from the report revealed by Polish public TV.

According to this source, former military intelligence had communist agents who heavily infiltrated Polish media after the official collapse of communism in 1989.

Communist military intelligence was to have as many as 115 spies in the Polish public media in the early 1990s.

Journalists working for communist service were to influence Polish public opinion at the command of the communist structures.

Apart from influencing the media, military intelligence was also to be involved in illegal trading of weapons and acting against the interest of the state. Criminal involvement of some politicians with the communist structures may come to light and be prosecuted, minister Zbigniew Wasserman, coordinator of Poland's special services has suggested.
