‘Oleksy tapes’ scandal hits ex-communists poll rating

27.03.2007
Fifty two percent of Poles think that the ‘Oleksy tapes’ discredit former president Aleksander Kwasniewski, according to an opinion poll by the OBOP agency.

Sixty six percent say that they do not trust former ex-communist prime minister Joef Oleksy and 42% feel that the tapes have damaged the image of Oleksy’s party, the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD).

The poll follows last week's leaking to the media of tapes recorded secretly by Aleksander Gudzowaty, a businessmen closely connected with the post-communist leftist politicians, where Oleksy suggests that the ex-communist left were involved in far reaching corruption during their time in office.

Last week Aleksander Kwasniewski announced a comeback to the political scene after a year and a half’s absence since he ended his term in office in November 2005.
