Giertych: ‘No homosexual propaganda in schools’

17.05.2007
Schools are to be obliged to protect pupils from contents ‘endangering their proper mental and moral development’, Education and Deputy Prime Roman Giertych has informed.

Among harmful contents the Deputy PM mentioned those impairing ‘marriage and family values’ as well as ‘propagating homosexually’.
br>This proposal was also put in the project of a new Education Act amendment, which is currently being drawn up, Giertych said.

According to Roman Giertych, the essence of the project is that gay organisations have no access to schools. He said that, “This phenomenon is spreading”, and that it would be up to headmasters themselves which organisations are allowed in schools.

“Propaganda means behaviour consisting of the public presentation of a given belief intended to convince,” said the Minister, quoting a Supreme Court resolution.

The Deputy PM said that he has already held talks concerning the matter within the ruling coalition parties. “There is the will of the whole government for this amendment to be enacted,” he claimed.

“There is 100 percent agreement between myself and Prime Minister, Jarosław Kaczyński. I talked also with President Lech Kaczyński and it seems to me he shares my views,” Giertych said.

“I do not want to interfere as a minister or a politician in behaviour of particular people. Let everybody, if they are adults, do what they consider appropriate. This amendment is not aimed at the discrimination of anybody, it is only to protect children and young people from agitating a phenomenon, which threatens marriage, threatens family, and threatens the responsibilities of schools preparing children for performing family and citizens’ duties”, explained Giertych.

In compliance with the amendment, schools will be obliged to protect children against any material propagating brutality, violence, hatred, discrimination, violating moral standards, and pornography. (jm)
