President Lech Kaczyński said in a TV interview that the attitude demonstrated by the head of foreign affairs parliamentary committee Paweł Zalewski was "highly astonishing” to him. The reference was made to the Law and Justice (PiS) deputy chairman’s comment on foreign minister Anna Fotyga, which led to the suspension of his PiS membership.
In a radio interview, Zalewski complained that the parliamentary committee had fruitlessly attempted to obtain an answer to a question about the results of EU summit at Brussels from the foreign minister.
Lech Kaczyński believes that Paweł Zalewski was disloyal to his party, and in his opinion the deputy PiS chairman’s punishment is a lenient one.
"What will happen to Mr. Zalewski next is only the business of PiS authorities, and as far as I’m concerned, my acquaintance with that gentleman is over", said the president.
Lech Kaczyński added that he could not see any fault on the part of Anna Fotyga, who - in his opinion - played a very important and difficult role during the EU summit.
