PM Kaczyński: my government is a success

19.07.2007
One year after forming his cabinet, Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński told Polish Radio this morning it will be remembered positively. He will be recapping the acheivments of the Law and Justice government at a press conference at midday, Thursday.

The PM disagrees with journalists and observers accusing his government of favouritism and centralism.

Kaczyński said he was not worried about "historical judgement", provided it would be a history adhering to the Aristotelian concept of truth advocating correspondence between judgements and the status quo, instead of post-modernist one with a relaxed attitude towards truth.

Premier said the government would work on implementing changes in public finance and education, and plans were made to deploy mechanisms of control and accountability in public administration. He also wants to modernise and reorganise police forces and propose new solutions in culture. Jarosław Kaczyński will summarise the first year of his cabinet’s achievements at noon on Thursday.

PM confirms that he intends to present the leaders of League of Polish Families (LPR) and Self Defence with so-called "conditions for good ruling” to be adhered to if the coalition is to continue.

They include a vote to strip some MPs of their immunity and a commitment not to support the establishment of parliamentary investigative committee to look into the actions of the Central Anticorruption Bureau (CBA) regarding corruption allegations in the ministry of agriculture and and other cases.

Jarosław Kaczyński declared that should LPR and Self Defence reject such conditions, a minority government would be formed and early election as a consequence. PM is ready to give LPR and Self Defence a few days to make up their minds, because -as Law and Justice spokesman Adam Bielan explains - the decision is likely to require statutory decisions to be made in the two coalition parties.
