An opinion poll published Monday has the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party just three percent behind opposition Civic Platform (PO). The poll, taken by GfK Polonia for the Rzeczpospolita daily says that 31 percent of the Polish electorate intends to vote PO and 28 percent PiS. Nine percent of respondents gave their support to the post communist leftwing alliance (LiD) and 5 percent to Andrzej Lepper’s Self defense party.
The three percent gap is a lower than most opinion polls have been showing over recent weeks.
The former coalition partner, the ultra conservative League of Polish Families got just one percent – level with the newly formed, feminist, Women’s Party.
League and Self defense will stand on a joint ticket, however, in a general election which most expect in Poland this autumn.
And when asked which party leader had charisma 41 percent mentioned Civic Platforms leader, Donald Tusk, and 36 percent Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski.
The poll was taken over the weekend from a sample of 1000 voters.
