State prosecutor Dariusz Barski has told the Polish Radio News Agency (IAR) that Janusz Kaczmarek, former interior minister who was detained by police yesterday in connection with corruption charges, has refused to answer questions or help with the enquiry. The regional prosecutor’s office in Warsaw will continue the questioning of Konrad Kornatowski (former head of police) and Jaromir Netzel (chairman of Polish public insurance company PZU) arrested on Thursday.
Barski said that once the interrogation of all three detainees was over, prosecutors would make a decision on further measures.
Dariusz Barski also said that Konrad Konratowski had a lot of evidence to give, and whether his interrogation before the parliamentary special services committee, originally scheduled for Friday, would take place on Monday instead, mainly depended on the prosecution procedure.
Barski expressed the opinion that it would not make much difference if the former police head appeared before the committee on Friday or Monday.
The state prosecutor confirmed that one of the richest Poles, businessman Ryszard Krauze was also accused of involvement in the same case and a warrant for his arrest had already been issued.
Barski refused comments on any details of the accusations against Krauze.
