The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Poland is planning to create at least 40 new electoral areas for Poles voting abroad, in anticipation of the up and coming elections in late October. In London alone 4 new ‘constituencies’ will open.
The deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs has said that the majority of new constituencies, i.e. around 20, will, however, be established in the USA. In Britain over 10 new constituencies will be created. Spain and Germany will respectively get 7 and 6 new ones.
Additional 9 voting areas will also be established in Afghanistan, where 1100 Polish troops are stationed.
Once the areas have been established, voters will be able to register via Internet, telephone and fax, as well as personally.
Registration forms will be available at the website of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in London.
Establishing what are effectively new constituencies is dependent on factors such as the number of potential voters and people willing to work as members of electoral commissions, as well as buildings suitable for being turned into polling stations.
