Polish President in Chicago to meet Polonia

25.09.2007
President Lech Kaczyński will travel to Chicago on Tuesday to meet the Polish community in the United States, weeks before an election in Poland. The agenda includes talks with the Mayor of Chicago and governor of Illinois, a lecture at the local international relations institute and opening of a Polish concert in the city centre.

The presidential chancellery stressed that the visit coincided with the parliamentary elections in Poland.

The Polish community leader Frank Spula reminded that he had hosted the Polish president one and a half years ago and added that he counted on Kaczyński’s report of the progress by his office.

Chicago is considered the bastion of the Law and Justice (PiS) in the United States.

On Sunday, Lech Kaczyński met the Polish community residing in New York.

He appealed to them to cast their votes for the Poland of the past two years.

On Monday President Kaczyński paid a visit at the UN seat in New York and took part in a meeting devoted to climate change.

He also held one-to-one meetings with the UN secretary general and president of Afghanistan.
