Complaint about circumstances of Polish politician’s suicide filed in court

04.10.2007
Today the District Court in Katowice, southwest Poland, will consider an official complaint about the arrest of former construction minister Barbara Blida filed by her family’s proxies a few months ago after she committed suicide while police searched her home in connection with a corruption scandal.

The circumstances of Blida’s arrest, which led to her suicide as a result, have been under investigation by the public prosecutor in Łódź.

The investigation aims to find out if the Internal Security Agency (ABW) officers overstepped the bounds of their duty.

So far no charges have been presented to anyone.

The late former Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) MP and construction minister shot herself dead on the morning of 25 April this year when ABW officers turned up at her home in Silesia with arrest and search warrants issued by prosecutors.

Orders to arrest Blida came from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice due to her alleged involvement in corruption practices.
