Krystyna Szumilas of Civic Platform (PO), the new rulers of Poland after their win in the general election, Sunday, ash announced that if not in this school year but next, school kids will not have to wear the compulsory school uniforms introduced by the out going government.“The case of the uniforms will be the first to be discussed in the new parliament,” assures Szumilas, head of the last parliamentary commission for education.
“We believe that it should be up to the schools’ principals, teachers and directors to decide whether uniforms are obligatory or not,” Szumilas explains.
If PO sticks to the idea of abolition, the flag-ship idea of the previous Education Minister Roman Giertych and one of the “successes” Law and Justice government was boasting of during the election campaign will end before it really started.
The policy was introduced this term amid much confusion. Some schools have ignored the policy completely.
